This was confirmed this morning by Tech3 team. At the moment it is only official that his presence in the Buriram test and still do not announce if Syahrin will be their official driver for next season.

Hafizh Syahrin, was announced today as the rider who will race with the Montser Yamaha Tech3 that Folger left vacant to recover of his health problems, at least in the next tests that are held in Thailand. The young driver of Malaysian origin will be sharing team with Johann Zarco. For Syahrin, this is his maximum opportunity to demonstrate that he has the level to be on the MotoGP grid.

As we told a couple of days ago, the decision of SIC Racing Team, team for which Syahrin was to run as official driver in Moto 2, to replace the Malaysian, for Zulfahmi Khairuddin as official driver, was the first step for 23 year old driver to the queen category.

It is not official for the moment to be the definitive substitute of Jonas Folger. The Tech3 team keeps that option based on the performance that Syahrin shows in the Buriram circuit. The decision will be made after the test.

Syahrin showed his happiness after knowing he will be the Tech3 pilot for the tests: “I want to thank Hervé Poncharal and the whole team for giving me the opportunity. I will try to give the best of myself during these three days in Thailand. For me, it’s a dream to be able to drive a MotoGP. I have to admit that I am very excited about this opportunity”, said the Malasian, who added: “I hope to be quick from the start and show everyone what I am capable of. I know I have to learn a lot in the Yamaha YZR-M1 and I’m looking forward to understanding how the team works”, said Syahrin.

From Tech3, they highlight its policy of confidence in young drivers: “At the moment, it is only for three days, but I am convinced that Hafizh will show us what he can do. He is young and has already achieved podiums in Moto2. It makes more sense for our team to have a young driver than someone who is seated”, said Hervé Poncharal, Team Manager of Tech3.
