FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem’s son Saif has unfortunately died in a car crash in Dubai, the governing body has confirmed.

The news first broke on Middle Eastern news publications about the death of FIA President Sulayem’s son Saif, noting about mourning scheduled as per Islamic traditions. Several publications only started to carry the news eventually on Thursday.

It said that he died in a car crash in Dubai on Tuesday, as Sulayem’s family requested for privacy. Like his father, Saif started a racing career of his own and most recently competed in the F4 UAE championship during the 2016-17 season.

He had current F1 drivers Logan Sargeant and Oscar Piastri as his rivals on the grid, where Jonathan Aberdien took the title. He is a motoring and car enthusiast as can be seen on his social media account, following on the footsteps of his father.

The details of the incident has been kept private with no public account available either. In fact, there will be no statement made on behalf from the FIA either. Having moved away from more hands-on F1 work, Sulayem Sr was in Bahrain for the grand prix on Sunday.
