The NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race at the Bristol Motor Speedway experienced a dramatic moment when, on lap 194, Mason Maggio’s car suffered a mechanical failure that ended in flames. The driver, at the wheel of car number 91 from DGM Racing, had to quickly head to the garage when he noticed white smoke coming from the vehicle.
Upon arrival, the flames began to engulf the rear of the Chevrolet. Maggio, however, reacted swiftly and managed to exit the car with the help of team members, including a well-known mechanic from JR Motorsports.
After making sure he was okay, Maggio gave a thumbs up to the cameras while the safety team worked quickly to put out the fire. Later, he explained that he had noticed a sudden drop in oil pressure that preceded the engine failure. “I didn’t expect my car to turn into a fire,” Maggio said.
On this occasion, the driver was in 35th place when the incident emerged, which forced a brief halt of the race to clear the scene.
