Sebastien Buemi, despite being penalised on the grid, takes his second win of the season in Marrakesh ahead of Sam Bird and Felix Rosenqvist.


Felix Rosenqvist started on pole position ahead of Sam Bird and Nelson Piquet Jr. Sebastien Buemi, who qualified second, got a five place penalty on the grid after an underweight fire extinguisher.

Good start from Rosenqvist who made the gap to Bird while Di Grassi did not get any place in the first lap. On the third lap, Buemi passed Prost for sixth place. On lap 6, Vergne showed himself up behind Piquet’s mirrors for P3. Buemi passed Abt for P5, both drivers being awarded the fanboost with Lucas Di Grassi.

After three laps spent behind the Brazilian, Vergne made the move on Piquet for the provisional podium. Several laps after his teammate, Prost made the move on Abt for P6 before Buemi passed Piquet for P4. On lap 12, Antonio Felix Da Costa found himself in the barrier.

Despite having a bit less of energy than Bird, Vergne made the move on the British driver for P2. Rosenqvist opened the pit window on lap 16 followed by Vergne, Piquet, Engel, Sarrazin, Heidfeld and Ma. On the next lap stopped Buemi, Bird, Prost, Abt, Turvey, Di Grassi, Lopez, Frijns, Duval, D’Ambrosio, Evans, Carroll.

After the pitstops, Rosenqvist was ahead of Vergne and Buemi who passed Bird in the pits. Despite a good race, Vergne got a drive through penalty for speeding in the pitlane and got out in P5 just behind Prost.

With six laps to go, Buemi used his fanboost to join Rosenqvist and Buemi passed him for the lead. Two laps later, Vergne could not stay behind Prost and got caught up by Di Grassi and Buemi. Di Grassi eventually passed Vergne for P5 and Bird passed Rosenqvist for P2. Every driver had to be very careful about their batteries and Mitch Evans hit the wall.

Sebastien Buemi took his second win of the season ahead of Sam Bird and Felix Rosenqvist who took his first podium in Formula E. Prost, Di Grassi, Abt, Turvey, Vergne, Heidfeld and Lopez completed the top 10.
