US Racing’s David Schumacher dominated Race 1 in Round 2 of FIA Formula Regional European Championship to score his first win as Jamie Chadwick took the W Series opener.
It was Schumacher show in Race 1 of Formula Regional European (F3) series at Vallelunga as the son of Ralf scored his first pole – due to penalty to Isac Blomqvist – and converted it to his maiden F3 win by fending off Prema’s Enzo Fittipaldi.
The German started well off the line and had his lead covered, as Fittipaldi cleared US Racing’s Marcos Siebert to take second. Schumacher held on to his lead for long as Fittipaldi closed in on him towards the end of the 30 minutes race.
The Brazilian tried a move on Schumacher for a couple of times but the German held on to score his first win to jump to third in the championship with two more races to go in the weekend. Fittipaldi, meanwhile, became the new points leader despite finishing second.
It ended up being a US Racing 1-3 with Siebert in third as a three-way fight for fourth ended with Van Amerfoort Racing’s Joey Mawson ahead of Prema’s Frederik Vesti and DR Formula’s Igor Fraga – the Dane losing his points lead to Fittipaldi as a result.

Meanwhile, over at Hockenheim, the historic all-female W Series kicked-off as a support event to DTM with its season-opener. Chadwick dominated the proceedings all-weekend, having topped both the practice and also qualifying on pole in a wet session.
She started off well in the race on Saturday but a spin helped Sarah Moore to take the lead after front-row starter Fabienne Wohlwend had a slow start too. A safety car for a mishap allowed Chadwick to fight back as on re-start, she passed Moore to re-take the lead.
It was check-mate then as the 2018/19 MRF Challenge champion took victory to clean sweep the opening weekend despite a challenge from Alice Powell, who had a solid outing to finish second on her single-seater return.
She had Marta Garcia though on her tail towards the end but manage to hold on with then Spaniard completing the podium as BMW junior Beitske Visser and Moore rounded out the Top 5 drivers, with the latter losing four places after leading at one point.
