Mick Schumacher has his first chance to drive the Mercedes F1 car in Barcelona following the Spanish GP weekend.

Having become the reserve driver of Mercedes this year, Schumacher will get his first chance to drive the W14 next week in Barcelona post the F1 Spanish GP weekend. He will get a full day of running in a Pirelli tyre test for the 2024 season.

Schumacher will drive on Wednesday, while George Russell will do so on Tuesday. “After the Grand Prix weekend, Mick will also get his first real-world taste of the W14 on the second day of the Pirelli tyre test,” said Toto Wolff. “He has done a great job with the Team so far, working hard back in the simulator and giving valuable input trackside.

“We’re looking forward to him getting his first taste of on-track running this year, and sure it will help him in his role as Reserve Driver.” Mercedes will be joined by Ferrari in the two-day slick Pirelli F1 tyre test for the 2024 season – the first of many days to come.

Ferrari is yet name their drivers. Already during the F1 Spanish GP weekend, they will test the 2024 compound which is being finalised to be put in use from the British GP onward. They will test those tyres on Friday in the FP1 and FP2 sessions.
