Nico Rosberg got pole position for the Russian GP ahead of his Mercedes teammate. Behind, the fight between Williams and Ferrari was won by Bottas. None of them could challenge the Mercedes in qualifying but will surely try to make things difficult for the Championship leaders tomorrow.

With Carlos Sainz unable to take part in qualifying following his accident in FP3, only 4 cars were to be eliminated in Q1. The unlucky ones were Alonso, Ericsson, Stevens and Merhi. The Mercedes topped the timesheets with the soft compound, while all the others weren’t even close to them with the super soft. Bottas, Vettel and Massa were behind them fighting for 3rd.

Massa wasn’t able to put a lap together in Q2 and ended up being last, while his teammate Bottas placed himself between the Mercedes and the Ferraris. The local hero Kvyat was also out of Q3 together with Nasr, Button and Maldonado.

Finally, Rosberg got pole ahead of Hamilton, while nobody was able to improve their times on the second attempt. Bottas managed to finish 3rd ahead of the Ferraris of Vettel and Räikkönen. Hülkenberg, Pérez, Grosjean, Verstappen and Ricciardo completed the top 10.
