Renault junior Jack Aitken has moved to Campos Racing for his second year in the FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2019.

Having raced for ART Grand Prix in his debut season in 2018, Aitken has been named Campos’ first signing for the 2019 F2 season. The British-Korean racer had a mixed outing with ART where he finished 11th with a win and a podium to his name.

Aitken started the year on a good note following on from a good showing in GP3 Series in 2017, but as the season went by, it became difficult for him with only three points finishes in the last five rounds, while his teammate George Russell took the drivers’ title.

It then became evident that he has to change teams when ART announced Nikita Mazepin and Nyck de Vries in their line-up. It looked likely that Aitken would switch to Campos especially since he tested with them in the post-2018 test in Abu Dhabi.

“I’m extremely excited to start working with Campos after a promising start in post-season testing,” he said. “They have the ambition and ability to compete at the very top, and although there’s plenty of work to be done I’m confident we’ll be up to it come Round 1.

“We are aiming for the top, nothing less.” Team president Adrian Campos added: We are delighted to have Jack join our team. He is an extremely talented driver and putting all elements together we will fight for top honors. We will aspire to the highest goals with our work and Jack’s natural talent.”

Campos’ CEO Salvatore Gandolfo said: “It is extremely important to bring Jack on board for the upcoming 2019 season. Both Campos Racing and Jack will be able to put themselves firmly in winning contention at every race.”
