Red Bull Junior Team’s Jonny Edgar will continue competing in Formula 4 (F4) in 2020, but has switched to Van Amersfoort Racing for his second season.
Edgar made his single-seater debut in 2019 with Jenzer Motorsport as a Red Bull junior, where he finished 10th overall with two podiums in Italian F4. He was the third best rookie with two wins to his name. The Brit also competed in few rounds of ADAC F4.
Unlike 2019, Edgar will compete full-time in both Italian F4 and ADAC F4, but with Dutch outfit Van Amersfoort, as he becomes the first signing of the team, for both the championships. He will also use the Red Bull livery, instead of the team’s black and orange.
“Last year was my first year in F4 and I loved every minute of it,” said Edgar. “This year I will have to step up my game competing in two of the toughest F4 championships at the same time. More than ever I feel ready to take this challenge head-on, aiming for nothing less than trophies.
“I have great confidence in Van Amersfoort Racing. Already during winter testing they made me feel right at home and I look very much forward putting up a successful season together with them.” At the same time, team CEO Rob Niessink, added:
“We have had our eye on Jonny already for quite some time, so we are extremely happy to have him on board for the upcoming season. Having had his inaugural F4 campaign last year, we feel he is now ready to compete for the highest step on the podium.
“Jonny can count on the support of our complete team and we will help him in every possible way. In the end we both have a common goal; winning championships.” Edgar becomes the fourth from Red Bull line-up to have a fixed programme.
He joins Juri Vips, Yuki Tsunoda and Jack Doohan, while the racing programme for likes of Dennis Hauger and Liam Lawson is still to be announced, who are likely to compete in F3. In the leaving list are Patricio O’Ward, Lucas Auer and Harry Thompson.
