Yuki Tsunoda features on F1 Beyond The Grid podcast as he speaks on getting a reality check plus relation with Helmut Marko & Franz Tost, love for food and more.

After an off-topic introduction largely focused on a shared passion for food between Tsunoda and F1 Beyond The Grid podcast host Clarkson, the latter inquired about the origins of the AlphaTauri driver’s passion for the sport, with the Japanese driver explaining how his interest in the sport was sparked.

Tsunoda discussed racing at Monaco in Sunday’s Grand Prix, pointing out that the weekend was his first ever experience at Monaco, with the AlphaTauri driver having been deprived of the opportunity to race there in Formula 2 last season.

Despite the various new experiences, Tsunoda insisted that the food and hospitality in the F1 paddock have been a surprise to him, before admitting that it was instead the complexity of modern Formula 1 machinery.

After confessing that he believes expectations were too high following his breakout Bahrain GP, Tsunoda discussed his emotions and was asked to explain his frequent team radio outbursts. He then discussed his various relationships with Helmut Marko and Franz Tost, and how they were formed.

Tsunoda then said that it is driving itself which excites him as much as the competition, after which he described how Honda began supporting him in Formula 4. The young driver, now living away from his home town for racing, insists he is comfortable away as he is not one to get home sick.

After discussing his frequent use of swears, Tsunoda admitted he’s yet to make friendships with other drivers in the paddock, and also confessed that he had little interest in F1 drivers in his youth. He did say, though, that he as recently linked with former F1 driver and current IndyCar talent Takuma Sato.

The Japanese driver said he “thinks” he is likely to maintain a relationship with Honda and many of its affiliated drivers after the manufacturer pulls out of F1 at the end of the 2021 season – before which point he hopes to deliver a stellar performance at Suzuka, he tells Clarkson. On this note, the podcast ended.
