Pirelli presents MotoGP tires for 2027 with color markings in F1 style

Pirelli has announced that the tires for the 2027 MotoGP season will feature specific color markings for each compound, following the style used in Formula 1. This new initiative will make it easier for fans to identify the different tire options during races.

The Italian company will assume the role of exclusive tire supplier for MotoGP, replacing Michelin, which has been in charge since 2016 until this year. The introduction of this change represents one of the most relevant aspects of the new technical regulations that will come into effect in 2027, which include new 850cc engines, a ban on ride-height devices, a restriction on aerodynamic development, and the use of 100% non-fossil fuel.

Pirelli, which has already supplied tires to the Moto3 and Moto2 categories since 2024, began working on this initiative more than a year ago, when it was confirmed in March 2025 that they would become the new supplier for the premier class. Since then, the company has made several deliveries to the five MotoGP manufacturers—Ducati, Aprilia, KTM, Honda, and Yamaha—carrying out a second shipment of 80 tires to the Grand Prix of Spain in Jerez early this year.

At this point, Pirelli has presented a new batch of 400 tires at MotorLand, where the Grand Prix of Aragon is taking place. Each manufacturer will receive 80 tires intended to complete their testing programs before the first preseason test of 2027, scheduled for December 1 in Valencia.

Color Identification

One of the main innovations of this last shipment is the introduction of color markings on the sides of the tires, similar to those already used in Formula 1. Each compound—soft, medium, and hard—and each type of tire, for both dry and wet conditions, will have a distinctive color. For example, red represents the soft compound, yellow the medium, and white the hard, while a blue color will identify the tire for wet conditions and green the intermediate tire.

The tires being distributed in Aragon are exclusively for the manufacturers, who have so far been the only teams able to test Pirelli’s compounds in private sessions. After the official test in Brno on June 22, where regular riders participated, another test is scheduled in Austria on September 21, open to all teams, including satellite formations that will receive the tires through their respective manufacturers.

In the official test in Valencia, MotoGP teams will be provided access to the full range of tires for 2027, thus allowing all teams to conduct adequate testing before the new season.
