Adrian Newey is frustrated by the fact that regulatory changes continue to limit freedom of designers.

“It is a shame and danger that regulations remain more restrictive, and reach a point where the car will be designed more or less by the rules. There are GP1 cars where differentiators are the engine and the driver. To me, that is not F1”, said the chief engineer.

Newey believes that the ability to gain a technical advantage is part of the charm of F1. “One of the great things that differentiate F1 from almost all other sports is the combination of man and machine. You can have a good car and an average driver and you will not win, and you can have a great driver with an average car and still will not win. It is both. believe that the public appreciates that and, taking into account this season and last, the combination appears to be adequate.”

The technical team boss of Red Bull said that F1 runs the risk of stalling if it continues to harden their regulations. And it has become quite common technical innovations in the sport to be banned claiming cost reasons or indicating that exploit less clear areas of regulation, as happened with the double diffuser, the F-duct and blown exhausts, among other innovations have emerged in recent years.
