Lewis Hamilton has claimed pole position for the Chinese GP after a masterclass of wet-weather driving in qualifying that literally left Nico Rosberg in an undignified spin.

1st Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes): “Tomorrow is a new day, we will have a difficult battle with Red Bull Racing. Such weather you never know what to expect – we can only say now that is not hot. I hope that Sunday be without rain – on a wet track competitors are able to deliver us more trouble. Winning in such conditions gives a special treat today as the clutch was extremely low. On a fast lap, it was important to attack, but did not make any mistakes. Session was difficult, but gives me great pleasure. The car looked very cool. Of course, we are able to add more, but the team does its job on the weekend. We have an excellent starting position – hopefully tomorrow we will fight for victory”

2nd Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull Racing): “I’m happy with the way I have developed for the final seconds of qualification, although during the entire session we chased some problems. Personally, I do not think I looked the best way in these conditions, but in the final third segment has achieved more in the fresh set of intermediate tires, driving a couple of good laps. I am pleased to qualify on the front row, today was definitely a good day”

3rd Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull Racing): “In wet weather, we do see a little more competitive. However, opponents of the Mercedes is still fast and yet difficult for us to deal with them. But let’s see what happens tomorrow. Forecast not promises rain- of course, we will try to be as high as possible and try to impose their struggle.”
