It was a Ducati 1-2-3 with Pramc’s Jorge Martin taking MotoGP pole in Valencia GP from Ducati pair of Francesco Bagnaia and Jack Miller.
Q1:
The first part in MotoGP Valencia GP qualifying started with Honda’s Pol Espargaro after his practice crash which ruled him out of the weekend. The Spaniard was the sole rider of the team after Marc Marquez pulled out of the weekend due vision issues.
The first run saw Suzuki’s Alex Rins lead the way with a 1m30.675s from KTM’s Brad Binder and Tech 3 KTM’s Danilo Petrucci. The second run saw the Spaniard improve further to a 1m30.673s lap to make it into Q2 alongside the South African.
A late improvement from Petronas SRT’s Andrea Dovizioso saw him finish 13th from Aprilia’s Maverick Vinales as the Tech 3 pair of Iker Lecuona ended up ahead of Petrucci in 16th. The Avintia Ducati pair were 17th and 18th then. It was Luca Marini ahead of Enea Bastianini, with KTM’s Miguel Oliveira could only manage 20th.
Q2:
The second part in MotoGP Valencia GP saw Ducati lead 1-2 with Jack Miller ahead of Francesco Bagnaia after first flying lap, but Pramac Ducati’s Jorge Martin set an identical 1m30.325s lap to be second to the Australian in a 1-2-3 for the Italian manufacturer.
The second run saw Bagnaia get ahead of his teammate with a 1m30.118s and bettered with a 1m30.000s but then had a fall with less than two minutes to go. Martin then did a 1m29.936s lap to go fastest as Miller’s late fall ended his chances of bettering it.
It was Martin eventually to take MotoGP pole in Valencia GP from Bagnaia by 0.064s as Miller made it a Ducati 1-2-3-5 with Pramac’s Johann Zarco ending up fifth behind Suzuki’s Joan Mir whereby his teammate Rins was sixth fastest after coming through from Q1.
Likewise Binder was seventh ahead of Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo with LCR Honda’s Takaaki Nakagami in ninth, Petronas SRT’s Valentino Rossi 10th, Yamaha’s Franco Morbidelli 11th and Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro rounding out the Top 12.
