Honda’s Marc Marquez scored his first MotoGP win in German GP since return as KTM’s Miguel Oliveira was second and Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo third.

Pole-sitter Johann Zarco dropped to third abode his Pramac Ducati at the start of MotoGP German GP as Honda’s Marc Marquez shot into the lead from Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro. The Spaniard had a near clash with Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo, but they stayed away.

Quartararo dropped to fourth from Ducati’s Jack Miller, with KTM’s Miguel Oliveira leading teammate Brad Binder in fifth. The Top 10 had Pramac’s Jorge Martin in seventh, Suzuki’s Alex Rins eighth, LCR Honda’s Takaaki Nakagami ninth and Honda’s Pol Espargaro 10th.

Marquez did not have it easy at the front as he and Espargaro exchanged places for the lead, but the former eventually retained the lead. Oliveira was the man on charge as he not only cleared Quartararo and Zarco, but also Miller to shoot up to second.

Miller, as well, was up to third after clearing Quartararo and Zarco, where the former passed his countryman for fifth. After fighting for the race lead, Espargaro dropped back to fourth as spits of rain started to fall at Turn 1, with white flag being waved.

The spits stopped after a brief period as Marquez led from Oliveira and Miller. Behind, Espargaro steadied on in fourth from Quartararo and Zarco, with Binder in seventh from Suzuki’s Joan Mir, who moved into the Top 10 after a solid start.

Martin was ninth from Espargaro, as Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia moved up to 11th from Rins, who dropped out of the Top 10 after early push. Nakagami was another one to drop back in 13th, to be ahead of Petronas SRT’s Valentino Rossi and Tech 3 KTM’s Iker Lecuona.

The Frenchman’s teammate Danilo Petrucci crashed out at Turn 1, taking LCR Honda’s Alex Marquez with him early on, while Aprilia’s Lorenzo Savadori crashed on his own. With no rain in the air, things started to settle down with Marquez leading.

Despite the tries, Oliveira couldn’t catch Marquez, as Quartararo cleared Miller for third. The other KTM of Binder made his way up to fourth after passing both Zarco and Espargaro. Another rider on charge behind was Bagnaia.

From outside the Top 10, the Italian made his way up to seventh after clearing Esapragro, Martin, Mir and Zarco, to be seventh as he chased A Espargaro for sixth. Just ahead, Binder passed Bagnaia’s teammate Miller for fourth in a solid show.

At the front, it was all about Marquez, as he led all-through to register his first MotoGP win since returning from injury and kept alive his German GP record at Sachsenring. It was hard push from Oliveira but not enough, as he ended up second from Quartararo.

Binder made it KTM 2-4, with Bagnaia clearing both Esparagro and Miller to be fifth on the final lap, as his teammate was sixth from Espargaro, Zarco, Mir and P Esparagro in the Top 10. Rins was 11th with Martin 12th as Nakagami and Rossi was 13th and 14th then.

The last point went to Avintia Ducati’s Luca Marini as he beat teammate Enea Bastianini, with Lecuona in 17th ahead of Petronas SRT’s Franco Morbidelli, Yamaha’s Maverick Vinales among the 19 finishers in MotoGP German GP.
