Petronas SRT Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo headed Day 2 of Qatar MotoGP test as Honda’s Marc Marquez suffers a – reportedly – big crash.
Quartararo was back in lead on Day 2 of the Qatar MotoGP test at Losail International Circuit with a 1m54.038s lap time abode his factory-spec 2020 Yamaha M1. He led Day 1 leader Suzuki’s Alex Rins, with Yamaha’s Maverick Vinales in third.
Teammate of Quartararo, Franco Morbidelli slotted in fourth with Pramac Racing Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia in fifth from Avintia Ducati’s Johann Zarco and Suzuki’s Joan Mir. It was a good outing for both Bagnaia and Zarco to be inside the Top 10 on Day 2 of Qatar MotoGP test.
Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso ended up eighth from Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi as LCR Honda’s Takaaki Nakagami rounded out the Top 10. Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro had a solid run again in 11th with afternoon pace-setter Ducati’s Danilo Petrucci in 12th.
The Aprilia rider had a crash at Turn 4 as Petrucci continued testing the new ride height system of Ducati. KTM’s lead rider was Pol Espargaro in 13th as Honda’s Marquez slotted in 14th after the Spaniard had a – reportedly – a heavy crash at Turn 9.
It is being said his MotoGP bike broke into two piece but Honda stated that he escaped any injury. Pramac Ducati’s Jack Miller finished 14th with Avintia Ducati’s Tito Rabat 15th from Tech 3 KTM pair of Miguel Oliveira and Iker Lecuona.
With Honda’s Alex Marquez 18th and KTM’s Brad Binder 19th, it meant Tech 3’s Lecuona was the top MotoGP rookie of Day 2. LCR Honda’s Cal Crutchlow and Aprilia test rider Bradley Smith rounded the 22 riders, with the former crashing at Turn 2.
