The championship goes back to the screet circuit, and to normality, that is to say that the Chevrolet and their undisputed leadership over the Honda. Juan Pablo Montoya was the fastest in the first session, followed by his teammate Simon Pagenaud.

The only interruption of the session was because of Scott Dixon. The winner of the last race in Texas had problems with his Chip Ganassi. That has left New Zealander in seventeenth place in the timesheets.

It is highlighted the great role of CFH Racing team which has placed two drivers in third and fourth place, Newgarden and Filippi respectively. The first Honda has been, how could it be otherwise, the Graham Rahal (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing) who finished  3/10 behindMontoya.
