Alpine has confirmed the appointment of Mike Elliott as the new technical director of its Formula 1 team, a strategic decision that strengthens the technical structure of the team based in Enstone.

The company announced on Thursday that Elliott will be responsible for overseeing the technical and engineering functions at the Enstone facilities, taking on a new position as CTO.

At 52 years old, Elliott returns to Enstone after having served as the chief aerodynamicist during the Renault and Lotus stages. He later joined Mercedes, where he was head of aerodynamics, helping to cement the team’s advantage under the 2014 regulations. He rose to technical director and CTO, swapping places with James Allison, before leaving the Brackley outfit in 2023.

«He has a proven track record in the world of Formula 1, with eight constructors’ championships and eight drivers’ championships to his name», stated Alpine. «Elliott’s arrival at Enstone strengthens the team’s technical capabilities as they seek to improve their performance on track and close in on the top four positions».

David Sanchez, the current executive technical director, will report directly to Elliott, who will oversee the entire technical branch of the organization.

After a difficult year, Alpine has started the 2026 season strongly, competing with Racing Bulls for fifth position in the constructors’ championship. This season marks a new phase for Alpine as a customer team of Mercedes.
