Alpine appoints Mike Elliott as new CTO of its Formula 1 team

Alpine has announced the appointment of Mike Elliott as the new technical director of its Formula 1 team, with the aim of strengthening the technical structure of the team based in Enstone.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the team detailed that Elliott will be responsible for overseeing technical and engineering functions at the team’s facilities. This position, which is new within the organization, reflects Alpine’s ambition to improve its track performance.

The 52-year-old Brit returns to Enstone, where he was the chief aerodynamicist during the Renault and Lotus era. Subsequently, Elliott joined Mercedes as head of aerodynamics, contributing significantly to the team, especially in adapting to the 2014 regulations. He held the position of technical director and CTO, swapping roles with James Allison, until leaving the Brackley team in 2023.

The Alpine statement highlights Elliott’s experience, which has been key in winning eight constructors’ titles and eight drivers’ titles. With his arrival, the team aims to intensify its technical capabilities and get closer to the top four positions in the championship.

Currently, executive technical director David Sanchez will report directly to Elliott, who will have a supervisory view of the entire technical section. After a year of sacrifice, Alpine has started the 2026 season strongly, competing for the fifth position in the constructors’ championship against the Racing Bulls. This season is Alpine’s first as a customer team for Mercedes.
