The troubles for F1 Miami GP continues on as a latest public hearing passed resolutions to not let the grand prix happen even at the new Hard Rock Stadium venue.
After the plans for Downtown Miami was scrapped due to the organisers losing out to the residents, F1 started looking for alternative venues to stage the grand prix. The new Miami GP venue proposal then came through Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross.
The idea proposed was to stage the race around the Hard Rock Stadium, which is the home of the Dolphins NFL team. A proposed layout was also revealed earlier in the month with photos released but the resolution against the F1 Miami GP continued.
A resolution was eventually heard on Tuesday in Miami-Dade County after a principal agreement was confirmed by F1. Emerson Fittipaldi and Sean Bratches were among the delegates present in favour of Miami GP with residents also represented to speak against it.
The usual discussions took place with regards to road closure and pollution – whether noise and or air – and also whether Miami needs a F1 race in their country. The group of commissioners voted against it happening but not unanimously, citing various reasons.
Mayor Carlos Gimenez had the last word after failure to get the resolution as he contemplated using veto power. However, he hopes that the organisers, commissioners and residents can find a common ground for the grand prix to take place.
There was also discussions for the race to take place within the stadium area which will limit any road closures as the agreement between Hard Rock Stadium owners and Miami-Dade County allows it to undertake any event there but it received further jolt.
In that regard, the commissioners managed to pass an ordinance to allow Miami Gardens residents to have a vote/say, whether they are OK for the F1 race to happen near the stadium. A resolution, though, was passed in a council meeting against it, last week.
With residents in full force to not let the race happen on the grounds of road closure and noise/air pollution and with majority of commissioners also with them, the situation for F1 looks dicey, even if they plan to stage the grand prix within the stadium area.
