Pirelli Motorsport has revealed the tyre choice of teams and drivers for F1 Australian GP as Mercedes differs from Ferrari and Red Bull Racing.
As known, Pirelli is bringing C2 (hard), C3 (medium) and C4 (soft) for the F1 Australian GP at Albert Park Circuit, with Mercedes differing slightly from Ferrari and Red Bull in the tyre choices as they have 10 sets of the soft compound.
It is same for Renault, Alfa Romeo Racing and Haas, whereas the likes of Ferrari, Red Bull, McLaren, AlphaTauri and Williams have gone for nine sets with Racing Point only having eight. Among other compounds, Mercedes has two of medium and one of hard.
It is same for Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo, Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Raikkonen and the two Haas drivers, whereas Esteban Ocon and Antonio Giovinazzi have gone for two sets of hard and one of medium. For the remaining teams with nine sets of soft, there is a mixed bag.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc has three sets of medium and one of hard, which is same for AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly, Williams’ Nicholas Latifi along with the two Red Bull drivers. Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel has opted for two each of medium and hard.
It is same for Daniil Kvyat, George Russell and the two McLaren F1 drivers. The Racing Point drivers, on the other hand, will have three sets of medium and two of hard to go with the eight sets of soft – the only one in the field to have so.
As the rule states, the teams get 13 set of tyres for the whole Australian GP weekend, with one set of the softest compound to be kept by the Top 10 F1 drivers to use in Q3. After the completion of qualifying, the Top 10 drivers will have to return that set, while the other drivers can keep it for the race.
For the races, each driver has to keep one set each of the two harder compounds available for the weekend, while the rest 10 sets they are free to choose from the three available compounds for the particular driver.
