Maya Weug reflects on her «toughest year» in the motorsport world

Maya Weug, former contender in the F1 Academy championship, has shared her experiences in what she describes as the «toughest year» of her career. This reflection comes at a time when she finds herself struggling to secure a racing seat, just a year after contending for the crown of the mentioned female category.

The driver has expressed, through her social media, the harsh realities she faces within the motorsport industry. After a successful 2025, in which she achieved three victories and nine podium appearances, Weug has seen her expectations crumble in a surprisingly short period.

«I don’t know how to write this. I have tried to show you the positive aspects throughout the season, but the truth is that this has been the most deceptive of my career,» Weug commented. «A year ago, I was fighting for a championship, winning races, and climbing onto the podium almost every week. I never would have thought that, not even a year later, I would find myself in this situation.»

Additionally, Weug lost the 2025 competition to Doriane Pin, who received the prize of a fully funded racing seat in another single-seater championship. However, Weug was able to drive a Ferrari 296 GT3 with AF Corse, also funded by the F1 Academy.

The driver added, «There was a big plan for this season. Just before it started, everything collapsed for reasons beyond my control. It was already too late to organize something else, and it has been very difficult to secure a racing opportunity.»

Despite all these setbacks, Weug hasn’t given up. She has been working as a coach for driver Alba Larsen, who has the support of Ferrari in the same championship, and dedicating time to the engineering area. «I have learned a lot and grown as a person during this year,» she stated.

However, Maya is clear that her goal is to return to competition. «I don’t want to be a spectator. I want to get back on track at the highest level and show what I can really do. This is what I want to do for the rest of my life, and I am working every day to get back in the car.»

The world of motorsport is demanding, and Weug has expressed her surprise that her previous successes have not been enough to secure ongoing support. «Thanks to everyone who has been supporting me during these tough times. The people close to me remind me that when one door closes, another opens, and I want to believe them. If you are a team, a partner, or know someone I should speak to, please get in touch with me. I will be back on the track.»
