Max Verstappen is the first Dutch driver to win a Formula 1 race, and also the youngest one to achieve it. He won after holding Kimi Räikkönen behind for half of the race. Räikkönen and Vettel completed the podium at the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit.

The race started with huge drama, as the Mercedes drivers crashed into each other, both retiring from the race. Rosberg closed his line while Hamilton was going for the gap, he went onto the grass and lost control of his car, hitting his teammate on turn 4. This left Ricciardo on the lead ahead of Verstappen, Sainz, Vettel, Räikkönen, Bottas, Pérez, Button, Alonso and Grosjean.

Sainz held the Ferraris behind for a few laps and he pitted once they overtook him. The Red Bulls and Räikkönen followed him, but Vettel didn’t stop until 4 laps later.

Ricciardo was the first one doing his second pit stop in order to defend himself from Verstappen and Vettel, who were very close to him. The Australian chose the soft tyre for this stint. Vettel pitted on the following lap and he also changed mediums for softs. Verstappen and Räikkönen, however, stayed on track. Verstappen pitted with 31 laps to go and chose the mediums until the end, and so did Räikkönen one lap later.

Vettel pitted again on lap 38 to change to mediums and try to do an undercut to Ricciardo, who decided to stay on track until lap 44, when he chose the medium compound, hoping for a higher degradation for the drivers at the front. Alonso retired from the race on lap 48 due to a lack of power when he was 12th.

Finally, Max Verstappen has become the yougest driver to win a Formula 1 race. Kimi Räikkönen was unable to catch the Dutch driver despite being right behind his Red Bull since the second pit stop. Sebastian Vettel got 3rd position ahead of Ricciardo, who was about to lose his position due to a puncture on the second-to-last lap. The top 10 of this historic race was completed by Bottas, Sainz, Pérez, Massa, Button and Kvyat.
