The FIA has revealed that Michael Masi will continue on his role as F1 race director and safety delegate for this weekend’s Bahrain GP.

Following the untimely death of Charlie Whiting ahead of the Australian GP, two weeks ago, the FIA appointed deputy race director of Australian Supercars series Masi as the F1 race director, the safety delegate and the permanent starter for Australian GP.

While the search for a fixed person to fill the massive shoes of Whiting continues on, Masi will stay on in the role for now for this weekend’s Bahrain GP at Bahrain International Circuit. His deputy race director will be Colin Haywood.

Masi will only be the race director and the safety delegate in Bahrain with Christian Bryll undertaking the permanent starter role for the weekend. Meanwhile, the three FIA race stewards will be Garry Connelly, Jose Abed and Emanuelle Pirro.

In addition, the preview note from the FIA states about a third DRS activation zone added to the existing two for the 2019 F1 Bahrain GP race. The first zone can be detected 50m before the Turn 1 with activation of the DRS 23m after Turn 3.

The second zone can now be detected 10m before Turn 9 and the activation being 50m after Turn 10. The new third zone can be detected 108m after Turn 14 with the activation 170m after Turn 15 in the 5.412km circuit.
