The Spanish driver has won the MotoGP Australian GP after overtake Jorge Lorenzo, who finished second, in the last lap. Andrea Iannone finished third, with Rossi fourth. Now the gap between the two championship contenders is only 11 points with 2 races remaining.


 

Andrea Iannone with a fantastic start took the first place in the first corner, Jorge Lorenzo followed him and was able to overtake the Italian rider at turn 8. But the Ducati had more top speed and in the main straight, Iannone retook the first place.

Marc Marquez was running third, and after 4 laps fighting with Iannone, he finally overtook the Italian rider, who lost another place with Valentino Rossi. Cal Crutcholw and Dani Pedrosa were running behind them.

Marquez and Iannone were faster than Rossi in the straights, but the Yamaha rider had better cornering, and he was the faster driver on track.

Jorge Lorenzo opened a 1.3 gap with the following group. Andrea Iannone came back fighting for the second place after overtake Marquez and Rossi in Gardner Straight. But the Spanish rider took the place back and with clean track he closed the gap with Lorenzo to only 3 tenths of a second.

With 10 laps to go, Marquez tried the overtake to Lorenzo in turn 4, and Honda driver took the lead of the race. Marquez wasn’t able to increase the gap, and with 6 laps to go, Lorenzo retook the first place.

Rossi tried to overtake Marquez, but both drivers went wide at turn 10 and Iannone was able to overtake both drivers.

We entered to the last lap, and Marquez overtook Iannone, and tried to catch Lorenzo, who was 0.6 seconds in front of him. With a fantastic last lap, Marquez closed the gap with Lorenzo and overtook him at turn 10, to take the lead and win the race. Andrea Iannone finished third, with Valentino Rossi, who was unable to overtake the Ducati, following him in fourth place. Pedrosa was fifth, Crutchlow sixth and Viñales seventh.

Next week, we have the penultimate race of the season in Malaysia, and Jorge Lorenzo has closed the gap with Rossi in the championship to only 11 points, with 2 races left.
