Marc Márquez has been the winner of the 2016 Americas Grand Prix of MotoGP. The Honda rider was unbeatable during the whole weekend. Lorenzo and Iannone completes the podium.
During the grid, the riders had the same doubts than every race, what tyres should I take? The majority of the riders put mediums in front and in the rear, as Honda decided to go with the soft ones.
When the lights went off, Márquez (Repsol Honda Team) kept the leadership in front of Lorenzo who had a side by side battle with Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP). The Italian drop to sixth place as Lorenzo drop to third after been passed by Dovizioso (Ducati Team). Aleix Espargaró took fourth as Pedrosa was fifth.
Today’s race had a lot of accidents. Loriz Baz, Valentino Rossi, Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso also has crashed when they were fighting for third position. The Catalan apologized to the Italian. Crutchlow and Smith crashed out at turn 11 later on lap 8.
It was a boring race but not for Suzuki rider, Maverick Viñales. The 2013 moto3 champion had a poor start but managed to comeback to fight with his team mate, Aleix Espargaró. The young Catalan quickly overtook his compatriot for a final fourth pace.
He didn’t had the enough pace to catch Andrea Iannone who has completed the top 3. He has been followed by Viñales and Aleix Espargaró on top5. Scott Redding was sixth, in front of Pol Espargaró, Michele Pirro, Hector Barberá, as the Aprilia of Stefan Bradl completes the top10.
Márquez won the race by 6 points over Lorenzo who couldn’t follow the championship leader who won his second race of the season, and leads the championship by 21 points in front of Lorenzo. Rossi drop to third, 33 points behind Márquez, and Pol Espargaró is fourth in the championship and first in the independent riders’ championship.
Repsol Honda team takes their second win of the season and continues on the lead of team’s championship, 15 points in front of Yamaha. Honda also is now on the lead of Constructors championship by 1 point, something unexpected two months ago during the pre-season.
Next round will be held at Jerez, for the Spanish grand Prix.
