Helmut Marko reveals about name change for AlphaTauri in F1 2024 with a new sponsor, as he says all is well with Oliver Mintzlaff.
After a change of name from Toro Rosso to AlphaTauri after Red Bull decided to use its fashion brand in F1, Marko has revealed about another name change of the Faenza-based outfit in 2024 as they are to bring in a new sponsor on board.
AlphaTauri is already to have two leaders in the form of Laurent Mekies and Peter Bayer as a replacement of Franz Tost. The joining date of the former is still being contemplated between Red Bull and Ferrari, considering that the Italian has a contract with Ferrari.
Along with the name change of AlphaTauri, the F1 team will be closer to Red Bull with more to be taken in going forward but nothing beyond the set regulation. “AlphaTauri will have two new leaders in Laurent Mekies and Peter Bayer from 2024,” said Marko to Kleine Zeitung in an interview.
“There will be new sponsors and also a new name. The orientation is clear: based on Red Bull Racing, as far as the regulations allow. Do-it-yourself constructions are the wrong way,” summed up Marko, who hinted on the retention of Yuki Tsunoda in 2024, but there are no confirmation on Nyck de Vries for now.
“Basically, Yuki is having a very good season with unfortunate results and penalties, but the performance is right,” said Marko. “But we’re not satisfied with Nyck de Vries, we’ll look into that too.” The Austrian also clarified that things are now well with new Red Bull boss Mintzlaff after reports of conflicts in the post Dietrich Matsechitz era.
“Everything has worked out and we have the freedom we need, as well as the budget,” said Marko. “Everything is in the green and Oliver Mintzlaff and I also have a corresponding exchange. I even know a bit more about football now because he tells me about it. I’m really amazed at the transfer fees being paid, how many managers and consultants are interposed.”
