Marco Wittmann wins the first race at Red Bull Ring, Spielberg ahead of Tom Blomqvist for a BMW 1-2 and Edoardo Mortara completes the podium.


Marco Wittmann starts from pole ahead of Tom Blomqvist and Adrien Tambay.

Good start from Mortara who overtakes Tambay who runs wide at turn one and loses another position to Glock. Meanwhile, Ekström spins just after turn 1. At the end of lap 1, Wittman leads from Blomqvist, Glock, Tomczyk, Tambay, Di Resta, Martin, Da Costa and Götz.

As the incident between Ekstrom, Martin and Da Costa under investigation, Blomqvist complains at the radio about the fact he is faster than Wittmann.

At turn six, Daniel Juncadella stops on track after a broken suspension after a contact with Christian Vietoris, getting both Mercedes drivers out of the race. Tambay keeps dropping down the order, being overtaken by Martin and Da Costa in the same lap, pushing him back to P8. Although, Da Costa gets a drive through penalty for overtaking Tambay under yellow flag.

No more than two seconds separate the top 5 at mid race term, the race being dominated by BMW drivers except Mortara’s Audi in P3. In the field, things are starting to heat between Götz and Molina before the Italian runs wide and loses no less than five positions. The gaps get bigger as the race goes and the positions are quite settled since the last third of the race.

Marco Wittmann win the race ahead of Blomqvist and Mortara. Glock, Tomczyk, Martin, Di Resta, Tambay, Farfus and Müller complete the top 10. Paul Di Resta keeps the lead of the championship.
