Marco Bezzecchi shares his tough recovery journey after setting the Silverstone record

Marco Bezzecchi, Aprilia Racing rider, has shared his long struggle with injuries after setting the track record at Silverstone during the practice for the British Grand Prix. Despite having achieved an impressive time of 1:56.280, Bezzecchi has acknowledged that his physical condition is still not optimal.

The Italian rider had arrived at the event after suffering a collarbone fracture and knee injuries during practice at Sachsenring last month. His efforts to return to competition have been commendable, as he felt good when he got back on the MotoGP bike after a month, but admitted that he is still struggling with pain and mobility.

Bezzecchi commented: ‘The day has been fantastic. I’m happy to have achieved a good time, but my physical condition is another story. When I have to ride four or five laps in a row, I start to suffer; by the end of the session, I was very tired.’ His recovery has been complicated, as he was unable to ride until the week before the Grand Prix.

The rider underwent surgery for the knee and collarbone fracture during the summer break. After the knee surgery, doctors discovered that the damage was worse than expected, with a deep wound and a small fragment of the affected bone. He states that the days of recovery at home were very difficult, as he felt frustrated and incapacitated, although he did everything possible to stay fit.

Looking to the future, Bezzecchi is cautious. ‘I hope to be able to finish both races, and even though the sprint race is shorter, the intensity is still high,’ he said. His return to the track has been marked by a competitive spirit, but his health remains his priority.
