Kevin Magnussen admits of it being tough to score as much points after Haas lost seventh to Aston Martin in their F1 2022 battle.
Having had some difficult time in the last few seasons, Haas showed respectable pace at the start of the 2022 F1 season and so far has done much better than recent years. But looking at the overall year, they have been a touch inconsistent.
They have scored handy points at selected events, but largely have gone without points which has kept them outside of the Top 5 position in the constructors’ standings. For much, they stood at seventh until Singapore where they lost it to Aston Martin.
In fact, AlphaTauri has gained on them too where they may lose eighth to them. At the moment, both sit on 34 points but Haas is ahead due to sixth place in Austria as both their best finish is fifth while the second best for the former is seventh.
They both are 11 points behind Aston Martin with four races remaining and as per Magnussen, he concedes that it will be tough to get past them unless the conditions and the track suits them. “It’s tough, because we’re struggling a bit to score points at the moment,” he said. “So, even though there’s not that many points between us teams down there, it’s hard to go and get those points and beat the other team.
“So yeah, we’ll have a chance and I think we’re going into some circuits that should be better for us. So, you know, nobody’s given up on beating those. We’ve been P7 in the Constructors’ for most of the year. And that would be a great position to get, you know, coming from a couple of seasons where Haas had been the last team in the Constructors’ Championship, be able to be really cool to jump a few positions. So that’s what we’ll try,” summed up Magnussen.
Over at Aston Martin, team boss Krack is happy to have overtaken the couple of teams but he is still taking it one at a time knowing that a double DNF could help either of the outfits to take advantage and score handy points to retake the position.
“The car has improved, obviously but Singapore was also a little bit special,” said Krack. “There’s not many high-speed corners and we have seen we have had weaknesses in these kinds of areas. We need to be realistic because, yes, we have jumped in the Constructors’, but it could also jump the other way around very quickly.
“Double DNF, or anything such with a good result of AlphaTauri or Haas, then we are back very quickly back in the previous situation. So, we need to work hard, try to do as much as we can,” summed up Krack.
