Kevin Magnussen is looking forward to working with Nico Hulkenberg as he notes how the two joke about their F1 2017 moment.
With the departure of Mick Schumacher from the Haas set-up, Magnussen will have Hulkenberg as his new teammate in 2023 to make it one of the most experienced pairs on the grid with the intention to solidify itself in the midfield.
The two have had a cordial relationship off-track with not much interaction at their time. It wasn’t because of the incident in 2017 on TV, but in general that the two didn’t speak much. But now they will have to work together to push Haas in the midfield.
And certainly Magnussen feels the experience of Hulkenberg will be an asset to Haas and that the two joke about their 2017 incident already. “I’m looking forward to starting working with Nico and getting him on board,” said the Dane. “He’s a very experienced driver and I think that’s hopefully going to be a big asset to the team.
“We’ve had a fun season this year and I’m looking forward to hopefully taking another step forward next year. I’m sure the relationship is going to be fine. I think in the beginning of the year, it was the first time I really actually spoke to Nico. We met at the airport and had a short chat on the drivers’ parade in Bahrain.
“It was kind of the first time we laughed about what happened back then in Hungary. It’s a funny thing that has been joked about many times since. It’s going to be fun to be his teammate,” summed up Magnussen, who is to race with his father Jan in Gulf 12 Hours at the Yas Marina circuit.
