The Italian driver continues his career with Trident and graduates to GP2 Series in 2016.

20-year-old Luca Ghiotto joins Formula One’s antechamber in GP2 Series after an excellent season in GP3 Series of which he finishes runner-up after a battle until the end with Esteban Ocon. He previously shone in Formula Renault 2.0 in 2013 where he finished runner-up in ALPS and won the Pau Formula Renault 2.0 trophy.

Ghiotto and Trident started their collaboration back in 2014 when Ghiotto was running in Formula Renault 3.5. The Italian team proposed him to take part in four GP3 races where he immediately shines by realizing the pole position of his first race in Belgium. He comments:

I can’t wait to line-up for this new adventure. Last year, it was tough for me to fight so hard and not winning the title. However, it has been an extremely useful experience with the help of the excellent teamwork among the whole Trident stable.”

Trident team principal, Maurizio Salvadori comments:

“I am delighted to announce that, after a spectacular season that handed him the runner-up honours in the 2015 GP3 Series, young racer Luca Ghiotto will be stepping up to the GP2 Series with Trident.”

With Antonio Giovinazzi with Prema Powerteam, Ghiotto is the second rookie confirmed for the 2016 season and the two Italians might fight a lot for the rookie title at the end of the season. Ghiotto’s team mate has not been announced yet.
