Legacy Motor Club has announced a significant change in the team’s leadership, with the promotion of Chais Elaison as the new team leader for car number 42, which is driven by John Hunter Nemechek.
This transition is happening at a crucial moment in the season, as Elaison has been the strategy manager and performance engineer for the team. His accumulated knowledge throughout the year positions him well to face the final challenges of the 2026 season.
“I am grateful to Legacy for the opportunity to advance in my career,” Elaison stated. “I have learned a lot working with this group during the season and I am excited to put this experience into practice as we move towards the end of this year and start preparing for 2027.”
Elaison will take over from Travis Mack, who has decided to leave the organization. Mack has been one of the cornerstones of Legacy, with over 200 races in his career as a team leader and was essential in Daniel Suarez‘s first win in NASCAR at Sonoma Raceway in 2022.
In the words of Jimmie Johnson, co-owner of the team, “the promotion of internal staff is crucial to how we are building Legacy. Chais has proven that he is ready for this responsibility and we are looking forward to seeing how he and the number 42 team can solidify during the final eight races and toward 2027.”
Additionally, the team has already prepared for the incorporation of Josh Berry, who will take over the number 42 car starting in 2027, with Elaison also assigned to work with him.
