Williams has signed Nicholas Latifi in a reserve role for the 2019 F1 season which will see the Canadian undertake various programme with the team.
Latifi moves from Racing Point to Williams in 2019 as he joins regulars Robert Kubica and George Russell to support them with their programme during the race weekends and also the team in the development of the new car.
The Canadian’s programme includes six FP1 sessions along with a day in the pre-season test at Barcelona from the eight days. He will also get two days from the four in-season test days – which is likely to happen in Bahrain and Barcelona.
Apart from that, he will also take part in two days of the Pirelli tyre test – the details of the Italian manufacturer’s programme is yet to be revealed. Off-track, Latifi will be fully immersed with the simulator sessions and also attend races with the team.
“I’m thrilled to be joining an iconic team like Williams as a Reserve Driver for 2019,” said Latifi. “It’s a fantastic opportunity to continue my F1 development, and to build my on-track experience with more FP1 sessions and the rookie and Pirelli tests.
“As well as this, a big part of my role will be simulator driving and helping to support the development of the new car. I look forward to spending time in the factory at Grove, immersing myself within the team and assisting wherever I can.

“Nicholas has been racing successfully in the junior formula, he has the racing pedigree that we’re looking for and he is incredibly intelligent and diligent. Nicholas will drive in FP1 sessions and at several tests next year.
“Along with this, he will undertake simulator work for the team. We are certain he will be a great fit for the team and we look forward to working with Nicholas next season.” It remains to be seen if Latifi will continue racing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship.
