Jorge Martín has achieved an impressive victory in the sprint of the British Grand Prix, thus consolidating his leadership in the MotoGP championship. The Spanish rider started from pole position and dominated the race at Silverstone, leading all laps and only facing a brief threat from Ai Ogura during the mid-stages of the event.
This victory marked a historic moment for Aprilia, which achieved an impressive podium sweep with Martín, Ogura, and Marco Bezzecchi, who finished third. Unfortunately, the race was tough for Raúl Fernández, who crashed out in the early laps.
At the start of the race, Martín had a clean getaway from pole, while Ogura climbed to second place and Fernández dropped to sixth. The battle between Marco Bezzecchi and Marc Márquez for fourth position intensified, with contact included at Turn 4 before Bezzecchi re-passed the current champion on the fifth lap.
With Martín breaking away in first place, Ogura and Di Giannantonio lost time battling for second. Although Di Giannantonio managed to pass Ogura at the beginning of lap two, he quickly responded to maintain his position.
By the end of the fifth lap, Martín had already built a lead of nearly a second over the rest of the group. However, Ogura began to close in, thus preparing a possible offensive in the final laps. Despite Ogura’s attempts, Martín replied with speed, finishing the race with a lead of 1.5 seconds and achieving his third victory in a sprint this season.
Bezzecchi, who had lost position to Márquez, regained lost ground before battling for the last podium spot, culminating his comeback with an impressive pass at Copse. Alex Márquez, who was the top Ducati rider, finished fourth, seven seconds behind Martín, while Pedro Acosta completed the race in sixth position and Joan Mir in seventh.
Marc Márquez faced significant difficulties in the second half of the race, finishing ninth and having pressure from Diogo Moreria until the finish line. The race also had other notable retirements, including Fernández, who crashed while battling for fifth position.
