Jorge Martin expresses his concern over possible surgery

The MotoGP rider, Jorge Martin, has shared his unease about the possibility of having to undergo surgery due to ‘arm pump’, a condition that affected his performance during the San Marino Grand Prix last weekend.

Martin, who competes with the Aprilia Racing team, led the race in Misano but suffered a drop in his pace and finished in fifth position, a result that has allowed Marc Márquez, from Ducati, to tie points with him in the championship.

Currently, Martin is analyzing his condition during the Austrian Grand Prix, where he will decide if surgery is necessary. His concern is heightened by the fact that the next race, in Japan, will take place on October 3, leaving little time for recovery if he opts for surgery.

In recent statements, Martin said: ‘There is always uncertainty with surgeries. I am scared of the possibility of having to go through this, as it could turn out well and I could be back on the bike in a week, or it could lead to complications.’ The rider assured that the difficult experiences of 2025, where he suffered four injuries, have left him with little optimism when it comes to making decisions about his health.

Nevertheless, Martin returned to the track during practice in Austria, where he achieved the fifth-best time with his RS-GP. His initial confidence about avoiding surgery has been affected after the first sessions, expressing that: ‘In the morning I was convinced I wouldn’t need surgery, but by the afternoon I started having doubts, which is normal.’

The Spanish rider hopes to compete without issues over the weekend, infusing himself with new optimism after working on the bike’s setup without thinking about his discomfort. Martin concludes with a question mark over his health until Sunday but feels confident about his performance.
