The 17-years old Swedish was signed by the Bavarian brand. Eriksson is having a great season in F3 and did not go unnoticed.

BMW bet on one of the best young talents of the moment, Joel Eriksson. The Swedish is a low profile driver, but he comes from fighting the F4 ADAC championship and this year is one of the best rookies of the FIA F3.

Exactly one year ago, Eriksson was comfortable ADAC F4 leader after a string of victories, but at the end of the championship the much more experienced Marvin ended imposing in the standings.

So Eriksson decided to step up to F3 and in the early stages of the season was clearly the best driver in the championship table out of the Prema drivers. But a series of unfortunate situations, like today when he had to leave the race being leader, and then the increase of performance by the Hitech team relegated him to 9th place of the table.

But that does not mean he don’t have left a very good image in a competition in which the positions in the championship fluctuate greatly due to high parity and competitiveness. 35 thousandths separated poleman the 6th place in Norisring, which speaks well of this generation 2016 FIA F3 in which Eriksson is one more big brands chosen to be included in the future. Other supported by major brands of motorsports are: Guanyu Zhou (Ferrari), Ben Barnicoat (McLaren), Niko Kari (Red Bull), David Beckmann (Red Bull), Lance Stroll (Williams) and could be more why not in the future.

Eriksson joins BMW as Junior Louis Delétraz (who is also in the Renault Sport Academy), Ricky Collard, Jesse Krohn and Nico Menzel. They all have a similar program to Maxime Martin, bound in GTs and then the DTM.
