ART Grand Prix’s Nyck de Vries remained on top during Day 2 of pre-season test of FIA Formula 2 (F2) Championship at Jerez in Spain.

The second day of F2 test saw Antonio Fuoco driving for Trident in place of Ralph Boschung. Also missing was MP Motorsport’s Jordan King who ‘burned’ his car during the final start practices at the end of the afternoon session of Day 1.

The morning session saw drivers undertaking long runs despite a red flag due to track inspection after exits from DAMS’ Nicholas Latifi in Turn 8 and in the same turn, another exit and barrier impact by UNI-Virtuosi Racing’s Luca Ghiotto.

There were also red flags during the afternoon session, with BWT Arden’s Anthoine Hubert going off track in Turn 4 and Sauber’s Callum Ilott suffering a spin in Turn 1. In all this, de Vries ended on top with a 1m24.723s lap with 90 laps on board.

He was followed by UNI-Virtuosi drivers Ghiotto (1m24.745s) and Guanyu Zhou (1m24.758s), with 57 and 97 laps respectively. Carlin’s Louis Deletraz (1m24.803s) and Prema’s Mick Schumacher (1m24.869s) rounded out the Top 5.

Deletraz did 86 laps with Schumacher 87. The Top 10 was then completed by DAMS’ Latifi (1m24.895s) and Sergio Sette Camara (1m24.903s), Sauber’s Ilott (1m24.981s) and Juan Manuel Correa (1m25.183s) and MP Motorsport’s Richard Verschoor (1m25.186s).

In terms of lap count, Latifi did 72 to Camara 69, Ilott 82, Correa 85 and Verschoor 64. Newly announced Renault test driver, Jack Aitken (1m25.222s) was 11th in his Campos Racing car with 56 laps in all.

ART Grand Prix’s Nikita Mazepin (1m25.373s) finished 12th with Campos’ Dorian Boccolacci (1m25.493s) in 13th, followed by Carlin’s Nobuharu Matsushita (1m25.608s) and Prema’s Sean Gelael (1m25.613s) in Top 15.

The laps done by them stood at with Mazepin undertaking 84 with Boccolacci 60, Matsushita 83 and Gelael 92. Trident’s Giuliano Alesi (1m25.634s) slotted in 16th from Hubert (1m25.716s), Fuoco (1m26.004s) and Arden’s Tatiana Calderon (1m26.667s).

Alesi did 78 laps to Hubert’s 78, Fuoco’s 74 and Calderon’s 88. Testing continues at Jerez on Thursday for the final day in the first pre-season F2 test with another three-day run lined-up next week in Barcelona.
