German motorsport experts HWA Racelab has signed an agreement with British team Arden Motorsport for the 2019 FIA Formula 2 Championship.

Arden Motorsport is to continue to race in the F2 series as ‘BWT Arden’ in the 2019 season after signing a deal with BWT ahead of 2018. The British team has now forged a new deal to co-operate with HWA Racelab in F2 from 2019.

After years of running in DTM – German’s top touring car series – HWA AG is expanding itself to compete in single-seater championships as it already races as a team in the 2018/19 FIA Formula E Championship with Stoffel Vandoorne and Gary Paffett.

It is to compete in the FIA Formula 3 Championship as well and now it completes the ladder with the partnership with Arden in F2. As per the release, the deal only relates to the F2 series and not F3 where Arden will not race in F3.

Arden International Motorsport team principal, Garry Horner said: “We are delighted to announce our new engineering and technical partnership with HWA RACELAB. HWA bring a wealth of engineering expertise and knowledge to the programme and we look forward to working with them in the FIA F2 Championship.”

HWA Racelab team principal, Ulrich Fritz added: “We are very pleased about this co-operation with Arden International, which is an important step for us as a team. It does not just represent a sporting challenge, but also allows us to utilise synergies and demonstrate our expertise in all areas of motorsport.

The FIA Formula 2 Championship is an extremely exciting and competitive platform. As newcomers to this championship, our primary aim is to learn as much as possible, apply our engineering know-how and contribute to the success of Arden.

An involvement in Formula 2 is an ideal addition to our wide spectrum of motorsport commitments, which now ranges from Formula 3 to Formula E, and from GT racing to the DTM.” The team is yet to announce any of its driver signing for 2019.
