Lewis Hamilton took F1 Hungarian GP pole by 0.003s from Max Verstappen, with Lando Norris in third.

Q1:

The first part in F1 Hungarian GP qualifying saw the new format with the hard tyres being used by everyone. There were multiple drivers pinged for track limits with lap deletions coming through as Alfa Romeo’s Zhou Guanyu topped with a 1m18.143s lap.

He surprised everyone with the fast lap ahead of Red Bull pair of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez in a session which saw traffic catching out plenty towards the end. The big fish to lose was Mercedes’ George Russell in 18th with a 1m19.027s lap.

The Brit lost out in traffic with Williams’ Alexander Albon (1m18.917s) being knocked out by just 0.011s in 16th with AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda (1m18.919s) 17th, Russell 18th, Haas’ Kevin Magnussen (1m19.206s) 19th and Williams’ Logan Sargeant (1m19.248s) 20th.

Q2:

The second part in F1 Hungarian GP qualifying saw the medium tyres being used for the session as lap deletions continued on where Verstappen had his fast lap deleted early on. He managed to put a third best lap behind McLaren’s Lando Norris (1m17.328s).

Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton slotted in second after a late lap as both Alfa Romeo cars made it inside the Top 10 which caused a major blow to Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz who was 11th after his 1m17.703s lap where he missed 10 by just the 0.002s margin – he was pushed out after his teammate Charles Leclerc improved on his last lap.

Alpine’s Esteban Ocon (1m17.841s) was 12th from AlphaTauri’s Daniel Ricciardo (1m18.002s), with Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll (1m18.144s) 14th and Alpine’s Pierre Gasly (1m18.217s) 15th after his last lap deletion.
