Honda has achieved a significant success in the 2026 season of the IndyCar Series, completing a barrage of victories in all urban circuits after Kyle Kirkwood was crowned winner of the Freedom 250 Grand Prix in Washington D.C.

This victory around the National Mall not only reinforces the excellent reputation of the Japanese brand in the championship but also marks the continuity of a decade of winning in all urban race seasons since the return of the competition with multiple manufacturers in 2012.

During the 2026 season, Honda-powered cars have dominated virtually all aspects of urban racing, achieving five of the six pole positions and occupying 15 of the 18 available podiums. In total, Honda engines have led 543 of the 597 laps contested, which represents more than 90% of the laps in urban circuits this year.

Specifically, in Washington, Honda-powered vehicles only ceded the lead in three of the 147 laps that the race had, thus highlighting the impressive control of the brand in urban races. This success represents the first time Honda has achieved a clear victory in this type of racing since 2023 and underscores the era of domination the brand is experiencing in temporary circuits.

Since 2021, Honda has accumulated 23 victories in 29 urban races, demonstrating the consistency of its engine package across all participating teams. All Honda-powered teams led at least one lap and achieved at least one podium in these tracks.

The excellent results in urban circuits have greatly impacted the overall standings of the season. Alex Palou, the current champion and four-time IndyCar Series winner, has stood out with six victories this season, consolidating a lead of 91 points over Kirkwood with three races still to be contested. Furthermore, Honda maintains a comfortable lead in the manufacturers’ championship with 1,316 points against Chevrolet’s 1,110.
