Lewis Hamilton has made it clear that he has had no contract negotiations with Toto Wolff with regards to his future with Mercedes and also F1.
Already during the 2019 F1 season, stories started to circulate regarding the future of Hamilton, where he was mostly linked to move to Ferrari as a possible replacement of Sebastian Vettel. There were stories around a meeting as well.
Hamilton, however, maintained his commitment towards Mercedes. While guys like Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen have got a set contract for multiple F1 seasons, the six-time champion is a free agent along with Vettel, beyond the 2020 season.
The only team he has a chance to switch to is Ferrari. At the same time, McLaren can be a possibility if Mercedes opts out of F1. Fresh reports came into light, involving his team, Aston Martin and Racing Point along with Wolff and Lawrence Stroll.
It stated that there could be a situation where Mercedes continues just as a engine supplier, while the current team gets re-branded as Aston Martin, which somewhat paves way for Hamilton to possibly switch to Ferrari from 2021 F1 season onward.
At the same time, some other reports have stated that both Hamilton and Wolff have agreed to a fresh deal, where the former is looking at two years extension. While all this continues to play around in the current winter period, the driver has denied any such claim.
Even though Hamilton and Wolff may be in touch on phone, the Brit has been in America for several weeks now. The Brit shed light on the current situation through his social media. “For your information, Toto and I, have not even spoken about contract yet,” he said.
“Nothing is being negotiated currently, papers making up stories.” This comes as an interesting comment from Hamilton, who certainly goes through the news himself. It could be a ploy but there can be truth as well as he isn’t in any hurry to re-sign.
With his dad Anthony now not in the scheme of things, Hamilton himself negotiates the terms and conditions in his contract. Having won six F1 titles, he is in a good position but the Brit has indicated that his future also aligns with what Wolff does as well.
