Another pole position for Lewis Hamilton this season. This time without his teammate’s pressure, as Rosberg had to use the engine from Spa. The Ferraris finished 2nd and 3rd on their home GP, with Raikkonen ahead of Vettel.

Q1 started with doubts about the participation of Ricciardo and Verstappen on the session. The Red Bull driver had the time to go out and set a timed lap, but Verstappen exited the pit lane when there were a few seconds left. Moreover, the engine cover flew away. Lewis Hamilton was fastest ahead of Rosberg, Räikkönen, Pérez and Hülkenberg. The McLarens, the Manors and Verstappen were eliminated.

Hamilton was also on top of Q2, with Maldonado, Nasr, Sainz, Kvyat and Ricciardo out of Q3.

The battle in Q3 wasn’t really for pole position, which belonged to Hamilton. The owner of the 2nd position wasn’t as clear, as Nico Rosberg had to use the engine from Spa, which didn’t include the new improvements for Monza. Finally, Kimi Räikkönen beat his teammate Sebastian Vettel and got his best qualifying result since his Ferrari comeback. Nico Rosberg was 4th ahead of the Williams of Massa and Bottas. Pérez, Grosjean, Hülkenberg and Ericsson completed the top 10.
