Ferdinand Habsburg has finished on top on the last day of GP3 testing of 2017 at the Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi. He’s followed by Jehan Daruvala and Nikita Mazepin.

It was yet another glorious morning for this final day of the 2017 season at the beautiful Yas Marina Circuit. The morning session might have started earlier, but everyone was present. When just 5 minutes into the session David Beckmann caused a red flag, hitting the barrier at turn 1. Due to the damage caused to the barriers, it was needed to stop the session and repair them, 30 minutes later the track went green again and the session could resume.

Juan Manuel Correa was the first driver to set a competitive lap, but that wasn’t for long. Niko Kari, who has been on top in the first two days of testing, wanted to continue his stroll from the past two days and grabbed the top spot. Pedro Piquet, Jake Hughes and Nikita Mazepin all pushing real hard to get to the top of the timesheet, with the latter eventually grabbing it just over halfway through the session. It seemed all set for the Russian, but in the final stages of the session, several drivers looked to improve their fastest lap. Daravula went to the top, by less than a tenth, with 10 minutes to spare, but in the final minutes it was Habsburg who took it away, before stopping on track with engine problems.

The afternoon session saw slower times and more long runs, with Jake Hughes taking the honours. With a 1:55.578 he didn’t get too close to Habsburg‘s time, but he set the time just 30 minutes into the session, with no rivals to be seen. In the end stages, Daruvala and Kari tried to improve, but both missed out by less than a tenth as the chequered flag meant the end of the 2017 GP3 Series season.

On the last day Ferdinand Habsburg takes the top, closely followed by Jehan Daruvala and Nikita MazepinNiko Kari, Callum Ilott, Max Defourny, Jake Hughes, Pedro Piquet, Gabriel Aubry and Giuliano Alesi complete the day’s top 10.
