On the first of three FIA F3 races in Hungaroring, Maximilian Günther has taken a dominant win that puts him on the lead of the championship. Hughes and Daruvala have finished on the podium.

In the beginning, Maximilian Günther did a superb start to keep first place, Jake Hughes also kept second place while Jehan Daruvala improved to third position. On the second sector, there was an accident between Pedro Piquet and Ralf Aron, that left them both out of the race. The Virtual Safety Car was deployed.

Günther did it great again on the restart and opened a 1.5 second gap with Hughes. Championship leaders had had a bad qualifying on Friday, and Lando Norris was ninth, with Joel Eriksson eleventh. Ferdinand Habsburg was given a Drive Through penalty for jumping the start.

Nothing changed on the next stages, Günther kept widening his gap and Norris overtook Mick Schumacher for eighth place. The German driver had lost pace and, on the last minutes, he was on Eriksson‘s sights. However, he was able to defend his ninth position.

In the end, Günther takes his third win of the season and, thanks to the bad results of his rivals, moves to the championship lead. Hughes finishes second, getting his second podium of the year, with Daruvala, third, extending his rookie championship second place.  Joey Mawson, Callum Ilott, Harrison Newey, Guanyu Zhou, Norris, Schumacher and Eriksson complete the Top 10.

These results have turned round the championship standings: Günther is now on top 19 points ahead of NorrisEriksson is third, 22 points behind the leader and Ilott is fourth, 21 points behind Eriksson and 43 behind the leader. This, however, can change at the end of this weekend, since there are still to races to run, which will be held tomorrow at 11:05 and 17:00 local time.
