Current FIA F3 championship leader Antonio Giovinazzi joins a list of legends after winning the Masters of Formula 3 race at Zandvoort today. The Italian follows in the footsteps of Max Verstappen – who stood on top of the podium this time last year – Valtteri Bottas, Jules Bianchi, Nico Hülkenberg and Lewis Hamilton, just to name some of the recent F1 stars who’ve claimed victory in the past.

Having won the qualification race yesterday, Giovinazzi, who competes for the Jagonya Ayam owned faction of Carlin, started the race from pole position, lining up ahead of Markus Pommer, Sergio Sette Camara and George Russell. Sam Macleod, who’s having a rather dismal season in the main FIA F3 European championship, started in 5th, with Nabil Jeffri, the VAR duo of Alessio Lorandi and Arjun Maini, Ryan Tveter and the first of only a handful of non F3 drivers Felix Serralles completed the top 10.

For George Russell a great getaway pushed him up into second place behind Giovianzzi, who remained dominant from start to finish. Formula Renault 2.0 driver Dennis Olsen also had a good start, getting past Pietro Fittipaldi, whilst Markus Pommer plummeted like a stone to 16th, joining Raoul Hyman and Mahaveer Raghunathan at the rear of the field.

Giovinazzi quickly set about dominating the race, pulling out a several second lead over Russell and Sette Camara, who held strong in third. Further down the top 10 Ryan Tveter had a race long battle with Carlin teammate Callum Illot – who gained an incredible 6 places throughout the duration of the race – making it all 4 Carlin machines in the top 8.

Sam Macleod had a strong drive to finish in 4th ahead of Nabil Jeffri, as Arjun Maini beat his teammate to finish 6th. Lorandi and Moreni completed the top 10.
