Campos Racing team have announced that Italian driver Luca Ghiotto will be driving for them in the upcoming FIA Formula 2 season.

After a really tough season, which ended with a ninth position in Teams’ Championship due to the poor performenace of Ralph Boschung and Robert Visoiu (among some other drivers that did some races with the team); Campos Racing has announced a promising signing which could be the key to become a strong team again after a 2017 season to forget.

It is the Italian driver Luca Ghiotto, who finished in fourth place last season, on which he drove for Russian Time, a team that will no longer be on the grid in 2018. Ghiotto signs with the Spanish team after two years on the series (With Trident and Russian Time, respectively) on which he has achieved two race wins and eleven podium finishes. If his debut in 2016 was already acceptable, in 2017 he confirmed himself as one of the strongest drivers on the grid, as he managed to finish fourth in the standings. Prior to that, he did one GP3 season, in 2015, on which he ended as runner-up, only 8 points behind champion Esteban Ocon.

“I am obviously very excited to be joining Campos Vexatec Racing.” Ghiotto said. “Adrian Campos has the highest culture of motorsport due to his past as Formula One driver and the following experience as winning team principal. This is a great opportunity for me, because Campos Racing has shown many times that it is one of the best place for a young driver to be and I intend to make the most of this opportunity, while doing the best possible job for the team. I would like to thank Adrián Campos and all the team for this opportunity and I’m sure it is going to be an intense and successful season for us together.”

With this announcement, it’s already six the number of F2 teams that have confirmed their line-ups or part of them. Apart from this confirmation from Campos; Charouz, Prema, ART and Carlin have confirmed their full line-ups and Arden confirmed the joining of Nirei Fukuzumi. As for the other driver who raced for Russian Time last year, Artem Markelov, his future is yet to be known.

2018 FIA F2 season will begin the 7th of April in the Bahrain International Circuit, where drivers will race for the first time with the new Dallara F2 2018, the new car especifically designed for the series.
