The Hitech GP driver has been disqualified from the second qualifying session of the first round of the FIA European Formula 3 championship at Paul Ricard.

George Russell managed to secure two encouraging front row starts for the second and third races of the season at Le Castellet. However, he failed to have the necessary 1kg of fuel available after the qualifying session.

Hitech GP team director Oliver Oakes comments:

We can’t dress it up to be honest – we just didn’t have enough fuel.”

“The car itself is over the weight limit, but sadly we were 100g short of the fuel required for a sample.”

Russell will have to start from the 21st – and last- position on the grid for the last two races of the week-end when he confirmed himself as one of the main challengers against Prema Powerteam as Lance Stroll and Maximilian Günther will start from pole position this week-end. Nick Cassidy will join his teammate on the first row for tomorrow’s and Sunday’s race.
