The drivers Reno Francot and Dries Van Langendonck have led the times during the third and final day of post-season testing of the Formula Regional Europe at the Red Bull Ring.
Francot, representing CL Motorsport and returning to the scene of his only victory of the season, set the best time of the morning with a clocking of 1m26.262s, surpassing Van Langendonck by 0.170s. However, in the afternoon session, the MP Motorsport driver took the initiative with a record of 1m25.730s, leaving Francot in second position, just 0.078s behind.
In the morning session, most of the drivers achieved their best records, with Francot improving his time three times in just six minutes, maintaining a pace that was nearly four tenths faster than his best qualifying time during the race weekend in April.
Behind the two standout drivers, Kenzo Craigie of R-ace GP secured the third best time. Craigie set his best record on his 11th lap after just 35 minutes of running and maintained first position until Francot improved his time. Van Langendonck, for his part, saved his best time for later in the session.
The fourth best time went to Miguel Costa of Rodin Motorsport. He was followed by Oleksandr Bondarev of R-ace GP and Matteo Giaccardi of ART Grand Prix, who completed the top six.
Among the drivers returning to the track, Rocco Coronel and Kasper Schormans of MP Motorsport finished the morning in seventh and eleventh position, respectively. Edu Robinson, who has joined ART Grand Prix, ended up in eighth position, while Thibaut Ramaekers claimed ninth. Alex Ninovic of Rodin Motorsport rounded out the top 10 with a strong performance in the morning laps.
After the lunch break, the afternoon session began with an intense pace. G4 Racing with Ingram-Hill and Rahim Alibhai set the initial pace before Francot reclaimed the initiative. Van Langendonck showcased his speed with a record time at the end of the session.
The day concluded with a brief red flag, which interrupted the running, and allowed the drivers a final attempt to improve. Francot, aiming to repeat his superiority, could not surpass Van Langendonck and fell just a few hundredths short of his time at the end of the day.
With these two days, the testing season of the FREC will conclude tomorrow, with the expectation of seeing if the drivers can once again improve their records before the official competition.
