Franco Colapinto renews with Alpine for the 2027 F1 season

Franco Colapinto has achieved an extension of his contract with Alpine for the 2027 Formula 1 season, remaining alongside Pierre Gasly as a teammate for the third consecutive year.

The young Argentine driver, only 23 years old, will continue his collaboration with Gasly, with whom he has shared a team since Colapinto joined the French brand at the seventh race of 2025. After a 2026 season marked by ups and downs, where he sought to impress the team management, Colapinto has shown more consistent performance this year.

The driver has accumulated 19 points so far, placing him in twelfth position in the championship, with his best result achieved in Montreal, where he finished sixth. This progress has occurred in a notably improved Alpine car, a fact that has generated good expectations for the team.

Colapinto commented on his renewal: ‘I am very happy to continue with this team in 2027. I feel very satisfied and stable here, and it is even better to have made significant progress this year compared to last year’. The driver added that they dream of higher competitions and victories in the future.

After a first step with Williams in 2024, Colapinto was incorporated into Alpine as a reserve in 2025. After Jack Doohan was eliminated, Colapinto had the opportunity to demonstrate his potential, and his promised speed and support from Argentine sponsors were key factors for his continuity in the team.

Flavio Briatore, executive of Alpine, has highlighted the importance of consistency in the driver team, noting that watching Colapinto’s evolution has been striking. ‘I am convinced that Franco belongs in Formula 1 and to this team’, said Briatore, with the aim of both him and Gasly continuing to fight ahead in the championship.
